Halo: Combat Evolved was groundbreaking on it's release. Similar to how Half-Life was revolutionary in game physics, Halo has some seriously tight gunplay compared to just about every other shooter out there at the time. Halo: Combat Evolved was truly innovative for it's time and it was further cemented in the revered hall of classics due to it's truly wonderful soundtrack and character development. I don't think it's an overstatement to say that game had a significant impact on gaming as a whole, it did a lot to show that games were more than something kids play and introduced a lot of adults to the truly rewarding experience that gaming can be, rivaling good movies and books to boot.
